SHOP LOCAL IN VENICE: URANO’S LAMPWORK GLASS

Mar 14, 2019 | Shop local, Things to do

If you are looking for a non-touristy glass laboratory in Venice…

…you shoud go and visit Urano. He is a Venetian glass master artisan who used to work at a traditional glass furnace in Murano, but has now opened his own space in Castello district.

A SMALL ATELIER IN VIA GARIBALDI
Urano has a small atelier located in a side road at the back of Via Garibaldi. Here he works in the company of his black cocker spaniel Minu, creating lampwork objects, especially beads for his necklaces, bracelets and earrings.

WHAT IS LAMPWORK?
Lampwork is a glasswork technique that consists in blowing and shaping molten glass over a torch, using special tools and hand movements. The result is the creation under your eyes of amazing unique pieces.

LAMPWORK GLASS DEMOSTRATIONS
Urano is also avaliable for demonstrations to single persons or small groups (cell 0039 342 091 3135). (Photo by Benedict Papendieck)
